Christmas Lights

The countdown to Christmas has truly begun with the switching on of the Cork City Christmas Lights in the city.

This year the Switch On will take place on Sunday, November 19th on St. Patrick’s Street. Celebrations will run from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

The Switch On of the Christmas Lights will kick start the city’s seasonal celebrations, and large crowds are expected at this wonderful and very popular event.

At 6.30pm, students from The Academy of Popular Music will perform a selection of much loved Christmas songs from the stage, where they will then be joined by the Lord Mayor, Tony Fitzgerald, and hopefully a very special guest – if he’s not too busy with those all-important lists.

Due to the large volume of people who annually attend the Switch On of the Christmas Lights, members of the public are being asked to give themselves plenty of time to come into Cork City on Sunday. Please comply with instructions from stewards as to how to move into and out of the event area safely.

There will be ISL Irish Sign Language Services on offer throughout the evening, with an area reserved in front of the stage for those who require sight of the signer.

Patrons with mobility issues or other disabilities will also be accommodated close to the stage. Space is available on a first come basis. In event of high demand, the space may be limited to the person who needs to access the space plus one companion only.

People requiring access to these areas are particularly advised to arrive early at the stage and follow directions of stewards.
