GLOW, Cork Christmas Celebration on the Grand Parade to end this weekend on Sunday December 18

Presented by Cork City Council, GLOW, Cork Christmas Celebration on the Grand Parade returns on Friday for its final weekend with the festival coming to a close on Sunday December 18.

Every weekend since November 25th, huge crowds have visited GLOW where they have been mesmerised by Narnia at Bishop Lucey Park, enjoyed the Food Markets on the Grand Parade and experienced fantastic views of Cork from the Ferris Wheel.

Several events are taking place at GLOW this weekend. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday a host of choirs from all over Cork will sing Christmas songs and carols on the Grand Parade. A selection of these choirs include Guys and Dolls Babershop Quartet, Pfizerpfonics, Surgeon Noonan, Voices of Cork, Konfident Kidz, Cork Sacred Harp Singers, Douglas Harmonia Singers and Lisheens House.

On Saturday December 17th, to celebrate Narnia in Bishop Lucey Park, Laurie Legrand will host a Narnia Christmas Car Making Workshop suitable for children 8 plus in Cork City Library. Advance booking is essential on 021 4924903.

All weekend special green elves will be at GLOW and will answer any questions the public may have about the Greening of GLOW and which bins to use. The Food Traders will also serve their food in special compostable containers.

For the past three weekends the GLOW Festival has been greened by Cork City Council and the results are great to see. The overall amount of waste generated at the site fell slightly from 1.54 tonnes in week 2 to 1.48 tonnes in week three. Significantly the amount of waste being recycled and diverted from going to landfill has increased to 43% (up from 26% in Week 2 and 18% in week 1).
